Pregnancy Question??

Ok, so I know this sounds weird and all, but I´m kinda on my own in this one. For those that have/are pregnant, around 5 1/2 to 6 months did you get sharp pains in your belly? Sometimes I don´t know if I´m freaking out for a good cause or its really nothing and its normal. I have to admit, I´m not so fond of my gynocologist (she´s REALLY laid back and unproffessional), but according to my mother-in-law she´s a good doctor and knows her stuff. So, I really don´t feel all that comfortable calling and asking silly stuff like this and according to my mother-in-law everything is normal until you can´t get out of bed and walk to the bathroom. I´m not so sure about that one. HELP! Let me know. Its probably nothing, I just wanted to calm my doubts.

okay so they told me at my appointments that if you have ANY PAINS you should call a doctor or go in for an appointment. It could be nothing or it could be something, better safe than sorry. But I never made it that far along, maybe braxton hicks or something like that?

Just a question is your doctor only a gynocologist or is she an obstetrician? She should be an obstetrician b/c that's the baby side of the stuff. I know you probably just didn't type it but I'm seriously wondering. Not to belittle your mother in law but I wouldn't listen to her, follow your instincts!

Braxton hicks wouldn't be sharp shooting pains, they would be a contraction or cramping of your stomach and really shouldn't be painful. I would be nervous about sharp shooting pains, is there anything that goes along with it look spotting? Todd has treated several pregnant women but would need a lot more information to give you any kind of good advice. If you are worried you should have it checked out, yes you may feel dumb but this is the life of your child. You would feel alot worse if something happened to your baby if you didn't ask.

Hey, I looked in one of my pregnancy books and it said that you may feel a sharp shooting pain on one side of your belly most commonly between the 18 and 24th weeks (its better to count your pregnancy in weeks since a pregnancy is actually 40 weeks - 10months). These pains are due to stretching ligaments, avoid quick changes in position, don't turn sharply at the waist and rest or change positions when you get it. If the pain gets worse or doesn't go away then you should contact your doctor. Hope this helps!

Hi Michelle,

This is your long lost cousin, Melanie. I agree with Sarah...it's probably just the ligaments stretching, unless there's bleeding or contractions going along with it. Still, be CAREFUL and make sure it isn't anything else, but I had some serious ligament pain with my two pregnancies. I thought I was going to split open, it hurt so bad, but they're over in a few seconds. Anyway, I hope things are going well with you. We sure miss and love you! Take care! And, congratulations on your pregnancy!

I never had sharp pains during my pregnancy. I did have cramps at times though. I agree with Sarah, you should talk to your doctor even though you feel uncomfortable! It's better to make sure it's nothing serious. I don't know how things are there, but if it were me, I would find another doctor who I trusted. Good luck!
